Well due to yet another occorunce of the following ive decided to start this thread to allow us to eleviate any issues of the negative kind we feel we should get off our chests..... owt that pisses us off or has done in the past....be it club toilets, dodgy doormen, crap tunes, overpriced door tax etc...we can now put it in here and be happy in the knowledge that it has been officially brought to the surface and promptly laid to rest.......Heres my issue...the main thing that has got to me over the years(and still does) is that whenever im talkin t someone and they say "so what music u into then"....i tell them "allsorts really but the thing that does it for me is techno".......now this is usually where the nerve-grinding issue arrises....the amount of times that the answer i get back is a short rendition of part of the track "2 unlimited/no limit"....ya'know...the bit that goes "techno,techno,techno,techno"......aaarrrgggg....noooooo.... :nono: ....i then have to dress myself into my "ambassador for techno" t-shirt on and try to explain the difference between "real" techno and pop influenced trash.....now i know i dont have to allow my techno defence mechanism to kick in but do we really need people wandering around with the view that this track constitutes and embodies the true feeling and bieng of techno....NO....I believe this track has done enough damage to the name of techno as it is and it should be banished forever.....so there we have it....thats my rant over with so maybe i can now sleep better at night and live a happy and fullfilled life.........................."2Unlimited/No Limit......R.I.P............ahhh...i feel better already... :D

Woo. That's so true, Jonny. Absolutely the same here and I'm sure with many others too.
It's for that reason that I very very rarely admit to the (only) type of music I'm into. If I do, then my "ambassador for techno" speech begins with establishing an acknowledgement of the massive difference between 'mincemeat' and 'minced meat' and then applying this to their 'techno' and real techno. If the person who asked the question does not know the difference between mincemeat and minced meat then there's no hope and I use the phrase 'hard dance music', if any at all.

Can I put Billy's hair in to room 101?
jonny
24th July 2005, 06:30 PM
lol....Well i suppose its a possibility....dont know how billy will feel about it though hehe.....it might even have the "samson" effect and he may be in danger of loosing his strength which could invariably cause some bottlenecks with regards of getting mixes hosted etc and we cant be having that now...can we???.....and thinking about it he has got a rather large amout of hair and im unsure as there would be enough room.....if that was the case we could be in danger of it pushing "2unlimiteds/no limit" back out into the open so in this hypothetical instance it would av t be left as is.....i can quite happily live with the captain caveman tinged barnet that billy is currently sporting.....i cant say the same about "no limit"...... :D :D

what's room 101? (sorry... been out of the country a while)
Room 101 was a show hosted by paul merton....the idea was he got guests in and basically anything that they could do without in their lives or anything that annoyed them they could put into room 101(metophorically speaking mind)....eg...John Peel was once on and wanted to put in "beards"(even though he had one himself) as he thought people hid behind them???......but i think the their inspiration for the show could of quite possibly come from the book "1984" by George Orwell where he describes a vision of the year 1984....in it room 101 is the "last" place where prisoners go....their fate in the hands of the big brother state....very good book actually and not a million miles away from the truth if you ask me......hope this gives a little insight into it.....how long u been away for btw billy....the show has been running for a fair few years now....they might even be on their second run of repeats now.... 8o .....

thanks for the room 101 info jonny & tyl3r... looks like it first aired in 1994. so my excuse is.. i was... erm.... "busy" between 93 and 95 8)
anyone else notice that?? apparently other things happened during those (golden) years. movies were released. tv programmes were shown. world events happened. but most of them seemed to go unnoticed byduring that time.
sometime someone will mention a movie and if i've not heard of it, i'll go and check when it was released... more often than not it's 93-95. funny that, eh?

look younger everyday..... right!
this actually goes against my theory of erm.. vitamin s. wrong thread but here's a quick overview... during those fast nights at the orbit (and beyond) my perception was that you actually "lived" more than under normal circumstances. (whilst this was, of course, primarily a theory prompted while living those fast times (not at ridgemont high)... i believe it does have some merit conceptually.) the obvious conclusion is that at some point you catch up with yourself.
this is my resoning behind looking so decrepit now. i caught up with myself.

I know what your saying Billy, anyone else notice your fingernails have about a weeks growth after you ve been out. I can only assume we will all be of a biological age far beyond our years.
I m off out now to add another week or so.

Yeah...tis the truth...thinking about i wonder if it would work the other way...like if i was to do absolutely fcukall for about 2 years solid would then the premature increase in biological years reverse and return me to my correct status....or would i just get fat and die of a heart attack due to bieng a lazy arsed mutha.....seems a bit unfair really, dont seem to be able to win either way..... :D

Well I actually look a lot younger than I am. This is due to the fact that for 10 years of my life, I spent it doing absolutely sod all through the week, and then giving it some pasty at the weekend. I've come to realise that this is due to me doing nothing during the week, then at the weekend I'd be dancing off the poundage! Now, on the other hand, it has sadly caught up with me, and in the last 12 months I've gained an extra 3 stone! Oh yeah, and I actually eat food now, so there's another factor, and I don't smoke as much. The irony is, that I'm actually tons healthier now than I ever was when I went to the orbit, and I seem to be piling on the pounds! Life's so unfair, but then I have had a pretty good stint up until now.

glad you got that off your chest! in future, just don't use the word 'techno'. personally, i use the phrase 'robot music' a lot, along with my favourite sub-genres, 'robot jazz', 'robot rock', and occasionally, 'robot metal'. it all means the same as 'techno', but avoids confusion with pisspoor '90's pop music. i'm not even going to apologise to the 2unlimited fans here. you know who you are.;)

.....well its an option which i may just employ in the future tuppence...but then i think i may be doing an injustice to techno by using another word instead and not getting "the point" accross....ill see how i feel next time it happens and if i simply cant be arsed i might well use the "robot" approach....if i can be arsed ill deal with it appropriately...lol...:D

i guess it ties in with that whole 'juan atkins/jazz is the teacher' thing. i have a very old, fond memory of getting absolutely munted with an old friend of mine and discussing the structural similarities between jazz and techno, while listening to loads of red planet and cybotron stuff. when i shut my eyes i had this perfect vision of the 'smash robots' from the old dried-mash adverts playing in a cheesy jazz quartet. ok, their instruments may have sounded strange, but they never, ever missed a beat or went out of time. not once. that's robots for you though...
since then, i have always thought of detroit tech as 'robot jazz'.;)

i'd like to put in people who start sentances with 'basically' and then the sentance is anything but basic. there really is no need.
i'd also like to put in people who over emphacise something by saying 'literally' all the fkn time. for instance:
"there's literally no room in here"
either there is room or there isn't. if there isn't then a simple "there's no room in here" would suffice, would it not?
i'd also like to put in people who use the word 'actually' all the fkn time in a similar way to their use of literally.
i'd also like to put in them cock ends who say 'at the end of the day' all the fkn time.
basically, what i'm saying is that, at the end of the day, i'd like to actually put all these fookers literally into room 101! :)

I've cut out TV altogether after the Jade Goody fiasco, I just think that anything like the brits or reality shows are all staged, and their managers tell them all what to do to spice up their celebrity status. "right, you're gonna be a paedo for a while, and you're gonna adopt a foreign child", "Jade, you're gonna nearly start world war 3, and then go on a world tour letting everyone now how ratialist you are not!" I'd like to chuck Jade Goody in room 101 and all TV.
It pisses me off that they keep showing little clips of doctor who but won't tell us when it's on. I don't want to have to watch BBC constantly for the next 3 months until they decide to show it! I'll be tempted to wait for the DVD, or other sources ;). I only watch films now, or if I do watch tv programs I'll pre-record them and watch them when I feel like it (sky+ it's great!)
I don't think there's enough great tv to warrent the price of a tv licence it's rediculous.

what i would like to put in the room 101 is .... them bloooody annoying, fiddly, twiddly things that keep toys in there boxes! they make christmas day and birthdays a living nightmare year after year! is there really any need to put 20-30 of them round every part of action mans body and accesories??  wot do they think is going to happen to action man ?? is he going to grab his sword and boots and climb out of the box and attack all other toys on the shelves of toysrblooodyus.... i dont think so! so what really is the need for them??? ive even seen toy cars where ya need a screw driver to get it out of its packaging as well as the twiddly things. they should include plasters and bandages in the boxes for when we have blisters on every finger from opening toys all day   wot are toy manufacturing companys doing this for? just to pisss us parents off on the days that are supposed to be special.

fair point but banning tv altogether is a bit harsh jade goody wants shooting then putting in room 101
i only watch documentrys, top gear, question of sport,watchdog,f1 and btcc and various races on motorstv and comedy shows like room 101,nevermind the buzzcocks and have i got news for you and various re-runs now and again if i want to watch a film ill find alternative methods "ahem" of watching them dont bother with any endemol crap like big brother and the likes.
