N1 ballboff...i was thinking something along these lines myself about doing a mix with all these tunes(or at least wi the ones ive got anyway)....well im up for it... :D
ballboff
6th July 2005, 08:28 PM
Good man! I for one will be trying to do one. So that's at least two of us. I'm sure that _me_ has a dabble with the 1's and 2's now and again?
jonny
6th July 2005, 08:32 PM
Yeah....and the ones we aint got off the list im sure we can all find suitable replacements.... :D :D
ballboff
6th July 2005, 08:34 PM
My sentiments exactly!

Surely Billy can make them all available as MP3's, and some talented HDJ can do the lot with Traktor....

ballboff
6th July 2005, 09:05 PM
Well I'm gonna add extra points for pops and hisses! I'd rather our readers were a bit more inventive, than to use a program that does it all for you.
ballboff
6th July 2005, 09:07 PM
I mean picture this if you will, you've just paid 30 quid to see sven vath at the orbit birthday party and he plugs in his laptop then goes to the bar and gets pissed all night without even going back to the main room!
jonny
6th July 2005, 09:11 PM
Well put ballboff....for me u cant beat the live feel that vinyl gives....but then i am slightly biased towards those disc shaped vinyls... :D
jonny
6th July 2005, 09:17 PM
And its got a proper hands on approach too where the margin for error is all within the skills of the dj, so if he plays a blinder it aint owt to do with any software which makes it almost hard to not do a good mix....oooh i am getting old fashioned...lol
jonny
6th July 2005, 09:19 PM
Avin said that i still would like a cdj so i can play mp3's but you still have the hands on ting going on as its got a platter n wotnot.... ;)
McC
6th July 2005, 09:25 PM
Final Scratch?
ballboff
6th July 2005, 09:28 PM
Final scratch? Nah, I'm sorry but no proper dj would entertain such a device.
jonny
6th July 2005, 09:31 PM
Gotta say ive never used it....but i still dont think ya can beat dem vinyls.... ;)
ballboff
6th July 2005, 09:35 PM
I'm in total agreement. Also I love the hunt for a cracking tune, most of the orbit classics, can be downloaded in no time, where's the fun in that? I think if this thread gets any longer we should start up a new one, cos this is becoming a tad irrelevant. I just wanted to know who'd be up for trying out a little experiment with the tracks we've picked out.
jonny

Lol..i think we have started splitting hairs a little... :bowling:

I agree in the main. But is it really any different to using drum machines, samplers, etc as part of a set? I reckon that if you've got the talent to be a good vinyl DJ then you've most likely got the nouse/skills to use the technology to add to the experience. If you can't even synch a beat, then the technology will just show you for what you really are...
My 2p.
PS I do enjoy the odd mess about with Traktor. Can't mix for toffee, but it's almost a free ride... :)
ballboff
6th July 2005, 09:50 PM
I wouldn't be one for using drum machines either, it's just a tool to overlay your bad mixing. 3 or 4 decks, now that is skill! But extra bits, fx and 909? Nah, a form of cheeting in my mind.
jonny
6th July 2005, 09:50 PM
So you gonna be joining in and doing a mix then mcc.... :)
jonny
6th July 2005, 09:55 PM
Gotta say i dont mind a bit o drum machine to accompany a mix, along with some effects to give the overall sounscape more depth but you have to have an ear to know where to place certain sounds to make it sound like it belongs there...that "IS" the hard part.....imo
McC
6th July 2005, 09:57 PM
So you gonna be joining in and doing a mix then mcc.... :)
So you enjoy the experience of feeling physically sick when beats, tempos, and rhythms are all on the piss.... :p
...you betta hope not!!! :D

Get on soul seek, billy has every single one of those tunes, even labelled them up as ATHTT folder (All time hardest techno track), or something similar, with sub-folders for each of the rounds. Off ya go McC!
jonny

nothing wrong with doing that now is there ? is there? :P
ballboff
8th July 2005, 07:00 AM
Ok ok ok! All mixes welcome! But extra points are rewarded for scratches, pops, jumps, hisses, spin-backs, and the peace-de-resistance is if you can juggle two tracks together that would be proper bo. One thing I do like about traktor though, are those scratching and cross-fading buttons, where you just hold the mouse down and it does a little hamster manouvre for ya!
Pob
8th July 2005, 09:43 PM
I`ve done mine, just wanted to check if it's ok to put extra tunes on that weren`t in the hardest list? not loads just a few to fill out the gaps and they're all orbit classics (ie forklift etc).
ballboff
8th July 2005, 10:18 PM
Yeah, I'll probably be doing the same too mate, so it's fine.

Mmmm.... looks like I'll have to pull me finger out. I did actually do one at the weekend, but my minidisk player seemed to record at half speed! Jeez, it sounded like hardest techno mix, but played back on a reel to reel tape recorder (before your time rambo!)
jonny
14th July 2005, 06:43 PM
Is there any limit to the length of the mix ballboff ....its just that there bout 70 tunes which is enough roughly for a set about 3.5-4 hours long....now i aint got all the tunes on the list but i can fill a fair few gaps with other tunes that well deserve to go in.....although i still cant do it at mo as all my gears in mi loft and right now my loft is a heated greenhouse...its just too unbearable is da heat maaan .... ;( ...

No limits really, anything goes. Mine is coming soon, I'm just waiting until I can be bothered usending it.

Well, it's what techno's all about. Giving it your all, and experimenting (in more ways than one!)
Too right...no limits...it can be anything you can and cannot think off....to push the creative flow and have no boundaries to what you want to experiment with....this way theres more chance of reaching something original thats not been toyed with b4...and after all that is to me what techno stands for.....it thrives on new 'techno'logy and new ways in which sound can be manipulated and controlled......well thats my take in a nutshell anyway... :D

Right guys, well here's my addition.
Eddie B - The Orbituary Mix - 14/07/05 (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2736ATFK)

ballboff
15th July 2005, 11:28 AM
Anyone else for any more? Jonny? _me_? McC even? Obviously I can't award the prize to myself, as I set up the bloody thing. Just leaves pob at the moment, and although a very good set, I'd still rather hear a few more before making a proper decision. I need at least 4 or 5 sets (including my own, then I'll probably put to a vote I think, yeah, that might make it a bit more interesting).
scottycam
15th July 2005, 11:31 AM
Due to limited PC resources my attempt will have to wait for the new hardwear to arrive, but I will do one eventually and it will certainly go into the experimental basket when I do. As it will be done on my pc, no deks ya see, i will have to work out the software first and find some good samples to have in the set.
ballboff
15th July 2005, 11:35 AM
Mmm.. I've got an early copy of traktor, and been contemplating trying to mix the whole lot in a 4 hour frenzy, but the pitch is just too digital for my liking. It's either plus 8 or plus 7, there doesn't seem to be much inbetween, and there doesn't seem to be enough fluidity (is that a word? If not I don't care it's the right word for what I want to say!)
scottycam
15th July 2005, 11:44 AM
Yes, you don't get the same feeling with electronic mixes and yes fluidity is a work, plus I don't know the tunes well enough to mix them properly. So mine will be an authentic old school mix, they never bothered with the mixin, it was all about the tunes.

Hehe....no traktor involved with this one.....although it might ov been a good idea......i have since i did this mix found out that round about the 55th track, one channel starts to cut in and out....grrrrr.....as if the fact that me bieng aware that my mixin aint up t wot id liked it to ov been it decides its gonna playing silly buggers by cutting sound to one channel.....i tell ya.....is nothing ever straight forward or is it just me.... :uhh: (in fact dont answer that.. :D )

Hell, it even puts my 1 hour and 11 minutes to shame (I think it was that long anyway!). I couldn't do a 3 hour session these days if my life depended on it! I ain't got enough tracks for a start anyway, since I sold most my collection a few years back to pay the rent!

Cheers ballboff....That'l b the kaoss pad ur on aboot.....feckin love playing with that thing....and its so easy too....i could do with putting the signal thru a limiter/compressor or summat though cos sometimes some of the presets are far louder than others n i always end up forgetting which ones are louder which results in an affect been way too loud for the sounds that are currently been put thru it.....some top functions on it though.... :( .....ill just av to use it some more wont i.... :D :D

i'm afraid i have no tracklisting for my mix... it was rather a mishmash ad-hoc cobbled together effort between me and a mate with laptops, ipods and other dj's mixes all slammed together in traktor... i didnt even know what the tunes were half the time, if it was hard and sqeulchy it was lobbed in to the sequence...
Track IDs anyone?

Yeah, I uploaded them all to the staff ftp for safe keeping. Well, the remainder of what you didn't have already!

attention: _me_, ballboff, jonny & pob
your entries are being "packaged" for upload... please confirm the following:
- do you want to include a tracklisting (jonny posted his already)
- do you want .nfo credits as your member name here, eg. "pob" or "james b"
let me know and i'll try to get them uploaded soon(ish)

i really do apologise that i have no tracklisting whatsoever... in fact, a lot of the tunes werent even mine.. a mate from belgium who was on holiday here at the time came round to my house and we hooked our laptops together in traktor/sonicfoundry and had a bit of a laugh... even the bloke from next door whos name i still dont even know played around on the frequency mixing while we were annihilating our nostrils on the kitchen bench... yeah - it was that kind of night....
i listened to this again yesterday and even tho it absolutely is "HRD OZ FK", i still dont know many of the tunes or actually even remember doing any of it, so i therefore really do believe that it shouldn't be a contender.
i will happily bow out and let the real djs take this one...
maybe next time... we'll get our act together proper bo and that.
