Hi
Anyone go to this event - Drop Zone on Friday 16th May 1997 at the Orbit venue.
Excellent night of techno with Jobbo, Jase Bagri, Dax and Resonate live act.
Wondering if anyone has recordings or photos of the night...
regards
bub

i have the recording of dax (karl) somewhere at home and i think i can probably get my hands on the other recordings [depending on whether they still exist]. i'll have a look and try to get the dax one put onto here [i don't have any of the necessary equipment, so i will have to have a word with tyl3r or billy]
tyl3r may have recorded the evening on his video thingy.
the small crowd that attended all seemed to enjoy the evening.

Yeah, I think I got quite a bit of this night on video (somewhere). A couple of 60 min HI8 if I remember correctly. Included some of warm up / sound check and people coming in and then lots of the night itself.

Thinking more about it, it might have been the "Lose your pants" night (a pre-run to Drop Zone) that I videod. It starts with [Snakey2k5] playing to an empty club before we opened. Flee P - did [Snakey2k5] play on DZ as well as LYP?

[Snakey2k5] definitely did not play dropzone. did [Snakey2k5] play 'lose your pants'? i can't remember who we had on at lyp? we had loads of people wanting to play. we had nidge walker playing one of them, but that might have been the easter special rather than lyp. the first two are all a blur and dropzone is less of a blur, but still blurred. i'll have a look through my stuff tonight.

It is a blur for me too. The video I'm thinking of started with [Snakey2k5] (playing some wicked tunes to an empty club) and at some point later had Nige on it.
So, to answer the original question from Bub: Yes, we were there, most definitely and there might be footage/tapes. Hometime research required to establish exactly what. Watch this space!

@Snake - Are you sure this is the night? It doesn't sound anything like it to me. I remember having a copy (that got stolen from my car) of this night that I played to death. Sounded nothing like this download iirc.
No banging, screaming trance anthems on this download...

is it? maybe that was the night that we put nige onto the flyer because we thought it would draw a bigger crowd, even though we had no intention of booking him.
it's the orbit memory mush kicking in again.

how come you can do your precious orbit flyers the correct way up, but when it comes to drop zone or lose your pants you do them at a 90degree angle?

Just demonstrating that underneath the clinical, scientific exterior, there is a "crazy dude" just waiting to burst out. [Real reason - that's the way I scanned them and haven't done any processing on the images... I'll rotate them tonight - just for you :p ]

I thought we had about 180 through the door which just nicely filled the downstairs (only) of the main room...? Wasn't it DZ that was quite empty? [Queue excuses about OMM.]

sure was more than 50 at LYP as i brought about that many (oh the fans....) :uhh: ;)
was pretty dead from behind the decks on both for me doing the graveyard shifts though lol.
alot of people i knew would of turned up if i had been on the flyer for DZ...but thats another story ...then again not totally a bad thing as my set was ropey as hell :(
hmms a vague blur for both atm though 10 and 8 years ago is quite a long time to rely on memories.........:dizzy:

Doesn`t sound familiar mate but if it is john thomas you could check out the audio clips for his label and stuff here...
http://www.logisticrecords.com/en/audios.php
Or his check releases here (no audio though)..
http://www.discogs.com/artist/John+Thomas
http://www.discogs.com/artist/Static+Drum
It might be static drum as their stuff tends to be harder..
Good luck!! :)

The flyer for LYP came up in discussion in the shoutbox the other evening and I thought it was posted on this thread. It wasn't, but is now:
http://www.theorbit.info/flyers/t19950824%20-%20Lose%20Your%20Pants%20(Single).jpg
Guess the 3 board members out of the 5 people present. C'mon it should be easy - especially those of you who think I'm a bit of an arse.

@jonny - Fantastic. You're wrong but by mentioning Violator you've allowed me to find the original post.
I was absolutely certain that the flyer was already posted (http://www.theorbituary.com/showthread.php?t=1042) but I just couldn't find it by the search facility until now.
So, arses in order are wil (who still hasn't introduced himself), Flee, wife of Violator, me, and Mad Mark (one of the many "Mad" Marks to frequent the place over the years).
@SDR - I'm enjoying you enjoying pair of legs number 2. :)
